TX002: “The Romanisches Cafe and Degenerate Art of the 2030's” — currently under investigation
We begin at Walter-Benjamin-Platz and zig-zag east through Charlottenburg: past Charlotte Salomon's Wielandstraße home, George-Grosz-Platz and TASCHEN, Mascha Kaléko at Savignyplatz, Steinplatz, Galerie Nierendorf, Theater des Westens, Jeanne Mammen's studio, and the vanished Nelson-Theater/Josephine Baker stage. The route then drops to Essad Bey's address at Fasanenstraße 72, crosses Irmgard Keun and the Café des Westens, and ends at the erased Romanisches Café around Breitscheidplatz.
Under investigation are Walter Benjamin, Charlotte Salomon, Mascha Kaléko, Jeanne Mammen, Josephine Baker, Essad Bey, Irmgard Keun, Franz Hessel, Brecht, and Einstein. Roter Richard—red-haired, hunchbacked, and known back then as “God's press agent”—carries newspapers, gossip, and messages through the Café des Westens orbit. The final cast will keep changing as research and access develop.
